The thought process keeps going…
I strongly feel that I want to add something to the previous post but I am not fully sure of what… I don´t like the feeling of leaving things “open”, which is challenging, since I am not very good at closing thought processes. Since this blog is about showing as much authenticity as possible, I want to also present the uncertainties and not deliver “carefully prepared texts” that have been filtered too much.
I think that one thing that feels important to add to this topic is that for many autistic people there is a need for support and/ or accommodations, not only because of societal norms, but for challenges of managing different parts of life. However, I don´t like the labels/ words (“disability” in different languages) used for this need, or the majority’s general relation to it. No matter how much support one may need, the autistic brain isn’t broadly about “lack of ability” and for most autists the support need is limited to certain tasks or areas of life. I think this is the reason to why many of us feel a need to question the concept of disability. At the same time it illustrates the complexity of the concept and words ARE needed to understand and talk about things.
